Senate panels poised for September meetings

Senate committees could meet over four days in mid-September as state lawmakers begin preparing for the 2020 Legislative Session, according to a schedule posted on the Senate website.

As many as seven committees could meet Sept. 16, including the Infrastructure and Security Committee. Senate President Bill Galvano of Bradenton announced this month that Infrastructure and Security Chairman Tom Lee, a Thonotosassa Republican, will lead efforts during committee weeks to address issues related to mass shootings.

The schedule sets aside time from Sept. 16 to Sept. 19 for Senate committees to meet, including a two-hour slot for the Appropriations Committee on the morning of Sept. 18.

The afternoon of Sept. 18 is set aside for appropriations subcommittees and the Finance & Tax Committee.

Lawmakers will hold a series of committee weeks in September, October, November and December before starting the 2020 Session on Jan. 14.
